Software Engineer with Healthcare Experience – Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Job Description:
We are an upstart software company based in Canada, focused on developing innovative solutions in the healthcare industry. Currently, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Software Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of our larger software program, with the initial focus on building an interface that utilizes optical character recognition (OCR) technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to read, extract, and output data from an embedded dictionary.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with our development team to design, develop, and maintain software applications with a focus on OCR, AI, and healthcare-related functionality.
Implement and integrate OCR technology using Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google services to accurately read and extract relevant information from medical documents, reports, and other sources.
Develop algorithms and methodologies to process the extracted data, apply AI techniques, and provide meaningful insights and outputs.
Work closely with the team to define and implement the appropriate dictionary embedding techniques to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of OCR processes.
Contribute to the overall architecture, design, and development of the software program, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
Collaborate with healthcare domain experts to understand requirements, ensure compliance with industry standards, and deliver solutions that address specific healthcare needs.
Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve software defects and issues.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in OCR, AI, and healthcare technologies, proposing innovative approaches to improve our software capabilities.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Software Engineer with a strong background in OCR, AI, and healthcare domains.
Solid programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud services, including relevant OCR and AI tools.
Familiarity with medical data formats, healthcare standards (e.g., HL7, DICOM), and HIPAA compliance is highly desired.
Strong understanding of OCR libraries and frameworks, such as Tesseract, OpenCV, or similar.
Knowledge of AI technologies and machine learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Previous experience in developing healthcare-related software applications is a definite asset.
