Specification: – Custom App for Managing Storage Bin Numbers

Overview
SAP Warehouse functionality makes use of Storage Bins for recording the location of a material in the Warehouse. A material can reside in several Storage Bins, with each Storage Bin being recorded separately (material managed as a ‘Quant’).

The project has decided not to make use of the SAP Warehouse functionality in their S4/HANA Cloud system, primarily due to the complexity of the processes with the resulting transactional overhead. The result is that only a single Storage Bin code is available for assigning to a material at the Storage Location level. This relationship is fixed within the Product/Material master record. The Storage Bin is displayed in the Goods Movement transactions, so it is vital that they are updated when material locations are changed.

From a practical sense, it is reasonable to expect materials to move between Storage Bins, as space (or the lack thereof) dictates. The result is that Macmahon requires a practical means for updating the Storage Bin code assigned to a material.

Proposal
The simplest approach to maintaining the material and Storage Bin relationship, is to create a custom application (app), which accesses the Storage Location data in the Product/Material master and allows the Store person to update the Storage Bin details per material.
