Douglas House

I’m at the beginning of envisioning a custom designed house and would like to work with an architect or architectural student on mocking up some ideas that can be modeled in 3D. This house will be functionally different from a typical house, with very specific functional requirements which I will share. At this stage, this project is not to lead to final drawings but rather a visual concept using practical structural concepts. The house will entail:

– Post & Beam or Timber frame is envisioned to create open spaces and high ceilings
– Main floor of ~ 2700 ft2 and lower level of similar footprint
– Flat tilted roof lines similar to photos attached
– Façade to be a combination of stone, wood or composite materials
– Spreadsheet summarizing required room list, approx. sizes and general layout will be provided. videoconference to discuss vision and iterative review updates as required.

No tight schedule is needed as project is likely 3+ years away. I just need someone to create some ideas based on my inputs, and then to flesh out a little more detail over the upcoming months.

Bidders should note the following:

– Hourly rate
– Hour estimate to complete and render 1 design, assuming an iterative process to determine the best floor plan
– Both external and internal rendering with moderate level detail showing key features (incl. windows) and structures
– No external landscaping but attached decks/patios to be included
– Garage and simplistic driveway to be included per plan provided
– Proposed software to be used and files to be shared
– Samples of projects completed, with priority given to post & beam.
– Location of bidder
– Bidder should expect to be short-listed and have a video call to discuss the project.
– Familiarity with Canadian styles and available materials would be an advantage.
