Build me a simple interactive children's story app
Project detail
We require a simple android app for children that operates as a novel-like game, where the interactive options are only 3 per story. The most we ask of you is a homepage, options/story page, and integrating 2d visuals (static images) corresponding with the story. We have a homepage graphic ready for you to use and a story, which is written below. For the options page, we ask that you list 2 stories, one titled “The Birthday Boy” and another titled “The Ill Friend”, however only the first (The Birthday Boy) will be functional. Clicking on the second story (The Ill Friend) won’t take the user anywhere, it will remain on the options page. This is because the game we need you to build must be given back to us quickly (within the week) and needs only to be an MVP, we do not require full functionality because we are time constrained and we do not want to make it a complex and expensive task for you to complete. For this reason, we ask that the app only be made available to Android phones to reduce complexity and that you do not make it extremely elaborate.
The one story we need functioning: The Birthday Boy:
An only child is given lots of presents from their parents on their birthday and they invite their school friends for the birthday party. Many arrive and as the child unboxes his presents, another asks if he can help with the unwrapping and play with the toys from some of the gifts.
One option is to say “no, they’re mine…” and the other is “Yeah! Let’s play together”.
If the player (the child who’s using the app) picks option 1, the birthday boy’s parent comes along and pulls him aside to teach him a little about sharing. If the player picks option 2, this step is skipped and the in-game parents clap at the child’s decision to share.
Next, the in game children play together, and the friend happens to accidentally break one of the wheels on a toy car that was gifted. Two options: ‘get upset’ or ‘say “let’s see if we can fix it!”‘. Again, in option 1, the parent comes and teaches them that it’s okay to be upset but it won’t help solve the situation, so let’s think of how we can fix the toy. If the player picks option 2, again the parent praises them for their decision.
Next, they look at finding some tape or glue around the house and the friend spills some hot glue on their hand. The birthday child has the option to call them silly and tell them off for being clumsy and careless, or to call the parent for help on removing the glue from the child’s hand. As before, if the player picks the first option, the parent comes and teaches them why that’s not a good thing to do, and how they should now move forward by suggesting they help remove the glue.
The story ends with them playing peacefully for the rest of the day and at the end, the parent tells the child that they’re very proud of how they acted during the party.
