Turning my passion into a marketable product

I’ll try and keep this short and sweet! I’m a professional chef, been in the culinary industry for the past 15 years, however, I’ve spent the past 3 years going back to school, trying different things because I want and need a change. Even though cooking is a big passion of mine, I have a huge passion for everything related to surfing, especially boards and fins. I am taking an “Open your own business” certificate and am looking for advice on how to find a niche in this competitive field. I live in Montreal, where we river surf, lake surf and have the nearest ocean 5 hours away. The surf community is growing exponentially and the city is starting to recognize the islands potential. My question is, what can I do to find the future needs of this community. I want to follow a methodical approach that will give me foresight and help me reach my goals.
