speech ted talk
Project detail
assignment will be your Passion Speech or your ‘TED Talk’.
This is a PERSONAL speech (… and when I say personal, I mean similar to the ones I did which were about me but had a universal message. Yours also MUST be personal with a universal theme that can be applied to ANYONE’S life: When you’re not good enough, When life hurts, etc.). And in addition to being personal, it should be an informative topic about an idea or belief you are passionate about.
What has life taught you that has created a belief you now have? What big idea do you have? The main criteria for the topic choice is PASSION. You must show enthusiasm. And it MUST be personal. This is a speech about YOU and what life has taught YOU. But even though it’s about you, you must meet the needs of your audience.
Using a topic that you know VERY well and are PASSIONATE about, create your own Passion Speech/TED Talk. This speech should be delivered extemporaneously—don’t read it or memorize it. **If you read it, you will receive no more than 50%, no matter how good the content is.**
To begin to plan your Ted Talk, begin with an idea. As Chris Anderson states, “You have something meaningful to say, and your goal is to re-create your core idea inside your audience’s minds.” (From TED Talks: The Official TED guide to Public Speaking)
Even though you will not get feedback on the actual practice speech, you will get feedback which, it done well and taken seriously, will GUARANTEE your success. Therefore, please upload YOUR
Responses to all the steps in the speechmaking process EXCEPT the alphanumeric outline step. Follow ALL the steps provided in the video on the speechmaking process:
Show us your THREE-part test following the guide in this video:
You will post BOTH 1 & 2 (the two above) in the discussion area so that I, along with 3 classmates, can give you PRELIMINARY feedback. Once you get that preliminary feedback based on your WRITTEN work, you’ll make the necessary changes and then you can record Practice Speech #4 then get feedback from 3 classmates again, then you’ll record your Graded Speech #4, which will be your final speech.
Again: Please keep in mind that you must focus on only one idea that you’re PASSIONATE about.
